Questions & Step-by-Step Solutions
What is the principle behind a transformer?
Steps
Concepts
Step 1: Understand that a transformer is a device used to change the voltage of electricity.
Step 2: Learn about electromagnetic induction, which is the process of generating electricity using a magnetic field.
Step 3: Know that a transformer has two coils of wire: a primary coil and a secondary coil.
Step 4: When electricity flows through the primary coil, it creates a magnetic field around it.
Step 5: If the current in the primary coil changes, the magnetic field also changes.
Step 6: This changing magnetic field passes through the secondary coil.
Step 7: The changing magnetic field in the secondary coil induces an electromotive force (emf), which generates electricity in the secondary coil.
Step 8: Depending on the number of turns in the primary and secondary coils, the voltage can be increased or decreased.
