Questions & Step-by-Step Solutions
What are the three main steps of PCR?
Steps
Concepts
Step 1: Denaturation - The double-stranded DNA is heated to separate it into two single strands.
Step 2: Annealing - The temperature is lowered to allow short DNA primers to attach to the single strands.
Step 3: Extension - The temperature is raised again so that a special enzyme can add new DNA nucleotides to the primers, creating new strands of DNA.
